Bio
Stephen has made himself at home on the waters of Colorado, living and guiding since 2012. As a child in Dallas, he could be found baiting his own hooks, putting some serious bends in Mickey Mouse rods, and unhooking fish as early as 4 years old. His passion for fly-fishing has grown exponentially since that age and led him to guide some of the best-known waters in the world. Stephen graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Hospitality; although he spent more time on the water than in class. Through college and into the present time, Stephen’s “river resume” includes Unalakleet Alaska, San Juan River - New Mexico, Animas River - Durango Colorado, and the White River system in North Arkansas, among others.
Stephen’s summer is spent in Vail, Colorado as a lead float guide for Minturn Anglers. His primary focus is the Eagle, Colorado, and Roaring Fork rivers. From May to October, he is on the water every day turning beginners into impressive anglers and honing the skills of expert fishermen.
From October to May, Stephen owns an outfitter out of Cotter, Arkansas where he guides on the world famous White and Norfork Rivers. Riffletrip Outfitters allows Stephen to pursue his passion year-round and gives clients the opportunity to fish water that is home to world record brown trout.
When Stephen is needed or has down time, he makes his way down south to the Xflats Lodge in Xcalak, Mexico. Involved since the Xflats inception, Stephen fell in love with extensive flats in Xcalak so he hosts trips and helps with groups of anglers traveling from around the world in search for their first or next Permit.
Wherever Stephen may be, you can be sure that multiple Scott Fly rods are in his boat or bag. Scott Rods have been in Stephen’s quiver for a long time and he is very honored to stand on the same team as some of his greatest friends and mentors.
