Bio
David Stelling grew up fishing in ponds for bream, bass, turtles and snakes in southcentral Georgia. He attended Appalachian State University and was introduced to the world of trout fishing on fly rod and more specifically a resource that was right out of the backdoor. Part of his degree in Outdoor Education required an internship which landed him in West Yellowstone Montana working at Bud Lillys Trout Shop - where he graduated over the phone in the basement - officially ending his shop attendant days.
From there in 2005 he returned to Boone to guide on the tailwaters and small streams that brought him in to this sport to begin with. In 2006 he was given the opportunity to guide on a wilderness float trip in SW Alaska and has since spent every summer there. With over 80 trips on the Kanektok River and 15 years of experience exploring these legendary waters David has immersed himself in the wonder and majesty that is the Yupik world of Southwest Alaska. It is a river like no other, complete with a culture like no other - "Ataneq Kuvyastenguuq Kaniirtuuq"
Guiding in and around Boone, the tailwaters of Tennessee, 11 year veteran charter captain in SE Alaska for halibut and open water salmon, Head Float Guide on the Kanektok and booking agent for his guide service back home - David can be found in his 1900's hardware store turned Fly Shop in downtown Boone.
The niche that he has created suits the Scott family well as his typical guiding situations are anything but. Requiring delicate small stream rods, tailwater finesse long leader rods, streamer sticks, and west coast style salmon rods - Scott can handle it all.
