Bio
Quinn started guiding for trout in the early nineties, to pay for his University education. What he found was, the University education opened doors to rooms he wasn't interested in exploring. Guiding was much more fulfilling; probably irresponsible at the time, and way more fun. Most guides get out of “guiding” once they realize the inherent lack of financial potential, coupled with the extreme hours worked, equate to nothing more than a beat up pick-up and pissed off landlords. Some guides stubbornly try to buck the trend, try to keep their heads above water (or at least until they can marry a teacher), and continue guiding to the detriment of their RRSP’s and dental hygiene. Some guides come to the realization early: that being on the water everyday is what’s important, and all the rest is noisy B.S.
Quinn is one of the longest standing full-time guides on the Bow River, in Calgary, Alberta. He has guided throughout Southern Alberta and South Eastern B.C. He has fished all over the world, having logged over thirty thousand nautical miles at sea aboard sailing vessels, with two trans-Atlantic crossings, always with his fly rods in tow. Tiger Fish in Zimbabwe to Tarpon in Belize, Quinn cites his favorite fish to pursue are: sight fished wild Browns and big Tarpon on flats, in clear water. He is also an avid hunter, both bird and big game, and willingly owns too many dogs. He owns and operates Trout Farmer, the Bow River’s premier Outfitting and Guiding operation.
