Bio
Chris Johnson has been fly fishing Central Texas for over 15 years and has spent countless hours scouting, researching, and fishing the rivers on which he now guides. Chris grew up in Round Rock, Texas and cut his fly fishing teeth on the waters of Brushy Creek. His home town had no fly shop, so after two years of guiding the area, Chris opened the doors to Round Rock’s first and only fly shop: Living Waters Fly Fishing. Living Waters is a full service fly shop that hosts Chris’ guide business and serves as a fly fishing education center to anglers of all ages. Chris has guided over seven years and guides many hill country rivers including the Llano, San Gabriel, Colorado, Guadalupe, and Brushy Creek. He is also a licensed guide in the state of Oklahoma and guides one of the state’s premiere trout tailwaters, the Lower Mountain Fork River.
Seeing that the Texas Hill Country has such a diverse range of fisheries, Chris’ Scott rod arsenal is equally as varied! For his home water, Brushy Creek, he primarily casts a 602/3 F2. Fiberglass possesses the wonderful ability to load and cast in extremely tight places, making the F2 an ideal choice for this challenging fishery. For the Llano, San Gabriel, and Guadalupe River he prefers a 904/4 S4. Although a 4wt. is considered a very light rod by most who fish the area, the faster action of the S4 allows it to throw most everything is a Central Texas river fly box! For larger flies and bigger rivers, such as the Colorado, Chris uses the 906/4 S4S. This rod throws bass bugs well and doubles nicely as a calm day redfish rod on the Texas coast.
