I grew up on a dude ranch in Wyoming with a trout stream running through it called Sunlight Creek. Sunlight Creek became my daycare; I spent a lot of my youth casting to brookies and native cutthroats on that stream. I started selling flies and “guiding” guests at the ranch when I was in grade school. I sold wooly worms 4 for a dollar. “Guiding” consisted of getting the guests to the river, and racing them to the good holes after that.I moved to Bozeman in 1987 to attend Montana State University. After six years of fishing and skiing, I finally got a B.S. in Fish and Wildlife Biology. I used this for 2 seasons conducting snorkel counts of Chinook salmon for the Forest Service in Idaho before moving back to Bozeman. I started guiding in Bozeman in 1995 and have been an outfitter since 1999. I guide on a wide variety of water from rafting raging freestones to stalking flat water spring creeks. Most of my clients come to Montana to dry fly fish to selective trout. About half of them come from Japan to test their skills. Each fishing situation presents different challenges for client, guide and equipment.
Scott Fly Rods have been my choice for the past 18 years. Whether it’s pounding the bank with streamers on the Yellowstone, or slack casting a tiny midge with 7X tippet on the spring creeks; Scott has the right tools for me and my clients.
