When people hear Dallas, TX the last thing someone thinks about is fly-fishing, including myself until I moved to Arkansas to attend college at the U of A in Fayetteville. It didn’t take long before I recognized all the water throughout the state and began harassing the local bass and trout. From the beginning it was always about Scott rods since Michael, owner of McClellans Fly Shop, is a fellow pro staffer and Scott advocate so I recognized early on that it’s a special company. Many years later and several influential mentors in the sport namely, Chuck Farneth, Jeff White, Al Caucci, and Bob Lewis have helped mold me into the angler I am today. The continuous search for knowledge while keeping it fun has always been the driving factor for me in this sport. While pursuing these goals, I have been privileged to guide in various locations such as Alaska, Arkansas, Chile, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, and Pennsylvania. It has been through this search for exploring new waters, locations, and cultures that has allowed me to acquire new techniques, styles, flies, etc. that have been instrumental in my progression as both a professional guide and angler. I have recently started a new chapter in my angling career with the addition of fly-casting and fishing competitions and tournaments throughout the country. I received my first win in 2014 at the Go Pro Mountain Games 2Fly Xstream and since then it has been one of my greatest achievements in the sport. I feel blessed and honored every day to have been able to do well competing against some of the best and most influential individuals in the industry. Humility, the constant search for knowledge and above all just making life fun are the key ingredients that I feel are necessary to be successful in this industry and in life, and therefore, are the goals I strive to live by every day. Whether guiding or fishing for myself, there are several rods that I can’t live without. The workhorse in the boat is the 9’ 5weight Radian, great for just about every scenario one will experience on the water. For the heavier nymph rigs or lighter streamers I have to go with the 9’ 6weight Radian or the 9’6” S4 or E2 6weight when a little more backbone is required. The last rod I must have in the quiver is the 9’ 5weight G2 for when dry flies are on the menu but in reality it’s just a really fun rod to fish and I continuously find myself using this stick more than just about any other rod I own. If a bigger rod is require, whether it be for pike, redfish, or bonefish or if you just want to throw the largest streamer in your box then you must have the S4S or the Meridian. Lastly, while there are numerous two handed rods on the market, the L2H is still my favorite for swinging for oversized king salmon or sea-run brown trout in southern Patagonia, this rod won’t fail you. Scott rods are and always have been my favorite company and will continue to be, I feel blessed to be on the pro staff and able to share my love for the company every day
