Bio
Every afternoon you will find Kevin McKay at his fly fishing headquarters tying flies or online managing his websites, www.mainefyfish.com and www.mainefishingadventures.com. He is never far from what some debate his true love to be, his world of fishing. He searches information on gear, flies, river flows and his next trip. McKay is passionate about finding the best deals and hot spots for his clients.
Kevin was raised in Maine around lakes, ponds and rivers where his mom and dad took him fishing during the lazy days of summer at JoMary Campground. From there he taught himself the tricks of the trade in fly fishing and all the sport has to offer one’s sanity. He has built his guide business on the many pleasures fishing offers; adventure, knowledge, skill, honesty and fun.
Kevin lives with his patient wife of 14 years and their sons, Tait and Jax. Luckily for Kevin, they all love fishing and the four steal away any chance they get to enjoy casting their flies together, along with their dog, Feta. They have all accepted Kevin’s addiction to the sport and have succumbed to the fact there is no help for his condition, despite many attempts at intervention. So, the next best thing is for them to join in. Tait and Jax have become fly fishing anglers in their own rite, as featured fishermen along with Kevin, on Grey Ghost Production’s latest film, “The Good Life”. The three have been featured in many articles as well as in local newspapers for fly tying and fly fishing events.
Kevin offers guided trips for trout, bass, and salmon in several locations around the state of Maine. He has a jet boat, a drift boat and a canoe. You can enjoy wet wading or stay dry in the pleasures of the boat. Whatever the deal, Kevin is one of the leading names in fly fishing in state of Maine. Many of his clients have fished all over the world and have touted McKay as the best guide they have ever had.
“Maine is becoming known as a state with one of the most diverse fisheries in the country and Kevin McKay is well known as the guide who can put you onto all of the species of freshwater fish this wonderful state has to offer. If it will put a bend in your Scott Fly Rod, Kevin will guide you to it. He is known and respected by fly shops around the state for his ability to consistently get clients into fish no matter what that client’s skill level may be. Catch native landlock salmon or brook trout in the morning and then chase fat hog smallmouth in the afternoon. Kevin does it all and does it with exuberance, charm, and a professional manner that helps turn a guided trip with him into wonderful memories and dreams of the next outing. His commitment to Scott Fly Rods goes well beyond the S4 tattoo that emblazons his ass. While being guided by Kevin don’t miss a hook set or those pearly cheeks will be exposed and the most horrifying Scott S4 advertisement will turn those wonderful memories and dreams into nightmares!!!”

“It has been my pleasure to be a friend and colleague of Kevin McKay for the past three years. During that time I've seen Kevin in his truest form, on the water where he is meant to be. I suppose the best way to describe Kevin, is that he is a “fishy”guy; in fact I am led to believe that he may even have a dorsal or a pectoral fin somewhere under his wading jacket. If it lives in the water he’s casting for it. May it be bronze-back’s or squaretails, salt or fresh water, any water body is his habitat and home. There is no doubt Kevin is one of the hardest working fishermen I have come across. His common sense approach to life is exactly what is needed these days. His uncommonly wonderful results speak directly to his dedication, commitment and love for the sport of fly-fishing.”
